FLARE is a free DEI group for women who work in Local Authorities in Highways departments, supporting all activities. This group is open to women at all levels and stages of their career, the objective is to create a network of women to share resources and strategies of being a woman working in a local authority highways department.

The sector has seen increasing female participation in roles ranging from engineering and project management to site inspections and traffic operations. Their contributions help promote diversity, bring new perspectives, and drive innovation in the construction and transportation industries. However, challenges like gender imbalance and workplace barriers remain, making ongoing efforts to support women in these roles essential for the sector's future.
